The Importance of Being Earnest

I thought this play would be another boring love story, but it is fairly interesting. The use of satire allows the play to be unique and captivating. From the very first line, Oscar Wilde makes it clear about his intentions with the play. Even on the title page, it's written "A Trivial Comedy for Serious People." It was a bit confusing to understanding what was going on in the first two paragraphs. As Oscar Wilde wrote, "And, speaking of the science of Life, have you got the cucumber sandwiches cut for Lady Bracknell?" At first, I was trying to find a comparison between these two to understand better. As I was thinking of how they went together, I began to understand maybe there wasn't a comparison at all. So I went To look at the title again to see how it was using satire. I realized that he was mocking the people that believed it was as important in having cucumber sandwiches present for their guest as the science of Life. I thought that was so clever!! I loved to unravel the satire and find the author's true meaning.
